• OLYMPIC YEAR GLOBAL OLIVE WREATH
  
  
• THE GLOBAL OLIVE WREATH
  The Greeks considered the olive tree as the most valued gift to humankind, a symbol of peace, sustenance, and life. In honor of the homecoming of the Olympic Games to Greece, the Athens Environmental Foundation has created the "Global Olive Wreath" project. This project is a massive international effort to plant a Global Olive Wreathtm on earth as a living legacy of peaceful dedication to the Ancient Greek Olympic ideals as well as the modern Olympic ideal of environmental responsibility.
  
  
• EARTH DAY CELEBRATION
  On April 19, 2003, AEF launched the First Olympian Earth Day, an 18-month worldwide environmental initiative in honor of the Olympic games in Athens. Several other organizations have initiated similar projects worldwide. Read More
  
  
• SPIRIT OF ATHENA AWARDS
  These national and international awards acknowledge individual and organizational efforts to provide and promote quality environmental education at every level. In addition, awards will be given to schools that implement environmental programs in their curriculum; that includes district, school, class, and student level awards.
  
  
• OLYMPIC YEAR SCHOOL CHAMPION PROJECT
  Olympic athletes will visit schools as ambassadors of Sport and the Environment to inspire children about the meaning of being a champion, and also about being a champion for the environment. Special units of AEF in Greece and the U.S.A will work together with Olympic athletes to organize lectures and fairs in different schools from the Elementary to the University level.
  
  
• YOUTH SPORT PROGRAM
  AEF sponsors boys and girls sports programs in local communities.
  
  
• OCEANS AND WATERS PUBLIC AWARENESS PROGRAMS
  Public Service Announcements before/during and after the Olympic Games 2004
  AEF will work with the Ocean Futures Society and the Earth Communication office and other organizations in the United States, the European Union and specifically Greece to develop and distribute Radio and Television Public Service Announcements (PSA's) that stress the importance of preserving our water resources, oceans, seas, lakes and rivers. Ads may feature Olympians.
  Create and Publish multi-language informational materials on the waters of Greece and the Mediterranean.
  Environmental materials to be distributed during the period of the Olympic Games to all residents and visitors to the Athens Olympics about fresh water and ocean preservation.
